About Us

Spectrum 8 Sports

The concept of and creation of Spectrum 8 was inspired by the U.S. Presidential Challenge Test created over seventy (70) years ago.  Physical fitness and testing in schools became more popular in the 1960’s and 1970’s under the leadership of President John F. Kennedy.

“Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity.“

-John F. Kennedy

Our Story

As a young man growing up on the Eastside of Detroit Spectrum 8 creator, Kent Baker vividly remembers being introduced to the fitness challenge testing concept in his gym classes at the elementary and middle school levels. Following a lifelong career as a college athlete, division 1 collegiate track coach, and physical education teacher, Baker has returned to his roots to create a test called “Spectrum 8”. The Spectrum 8 platform replaces the traditional numeric measurement system with a color-coded scale, based upon standardized performance data. Utilizing an eight (8) point color scale and eight (8) fitness tests, Spectrum8 allows every student to compete and challenge themselves to reach for and achieve individual, realistic, and meaningful fitness outcomes.

Spectrum 8 Team

Spectrum 8 Sports is comprised of a group of unique individuals from backgrounds in physical education, business, and software development.  Each of these individuals represents one of the key building blocks in the design and creation of Spectrum 8 Sports' revolutionary concept and platform.  All members of the Spectrum8 team share a love for athletics and fitness with a deep commitment to develop a program that can create understanding and motivation for all its participants.  Several members are also University of Toledo graduates, contributing their technical and business skills in building Spectrum 8 Sports.
